Savannah, GA — The Thomas Square Neighborhood Association (TSNA) is proud to announce the return of its community Litter Clean-Up events in the Streetcar Historic District (Thomas Square)—now reestablished as a monthly initiative taking place on the third Saturday of each month at 10:00 AM.
Following a brief hiatus, TSNA Board Members Linda Van Apeldoorn and Jess Shaw have stepped forward to lead and coordinate the relaunch of the program—bringing renewed energy and consistency to one of the neighborhood’s most visible and impactful community initiatives.
“These clean-ups are about more than just picking up trash,” said TSNA President Jacob Jarvis. “They’re about showing up for our neighborhood, building connections, and taking pride in the beautiful surroundings here in the Streetcar Historic District.”
Each clean-up will begin at a rotating local business—typically a neighborhood coffee shop—creating a welcoming starting point for volunteers to gather, connect, and fuel up before heading out. The group will then focus on a targeted area within the district, while also ensuring that key infrastructure points—such as the four DOT bus stops—are included in each effort.
By keeping volunteers together during clean-ups, the initiative is designed to encourage interaction between long-time residents and newer neighbors—strengthening the sense of community that defines the district.
Upcoming Litter Clean-Up Dates:
Saturday, March 21st
Saturday, April 18th
Saturday, May 16th
All clean-ups begin at 10:00 AM, and volunteers are welcome to participate for as long as their schedule allows.
How to Get Involved
Show up at the scheduled location
Bring a friend or neighbor
Dress comfortably for outdoor activity
TSNA will provide basic supplies, including litter grabbers. Local business partners may also provide coffee and light refreshments to support volunteers.
Supporting a Cleaner, More Connected Neighborhood
These monthly clean-ups are part of TSNA’s broader “Keep Thomas Square Beautiful” initiative—focused on improving neighborhood appearance, supporting walkability, and reinforcing community pride across the Streetcar Historic District.
“Consistency is what makes this successful,” Jarvis added. “When neighbors know this is happening every month, it becomes part of the rhythm of the neighborhood—and that’s when real impact starts to happen.”
Residents, business owners, and volunteers of all ages are encouraged to participate.
